Despite currently lacking a creative director, Chanel is charging ahead with bold plans for its upcoming cruise show, firmly maintaining its status in the luxury fashion industry.
On Thursday, the French fashion powerhouse unveiled that its much-anticipated destination show has been confirmed for April 29, taking place in the stunning setting of Lake Como, Italy. Although specific details about the exact location remain undisclosed, the choice of this idyllic backdrop is sure to heighten excitement.
Lake Como, known for its breathtaking villas and scenic landscapes, attracts a constellation of A-list celebrities and serves as a favored venue for high-profile luxury events. The scenic beauty of the area makes it a magnet for fashion lovers and influencers alike, eager to witness the latest creative offerings from renowned brands.
Last year, Dior dazzled audiences by showcasing its exquisite high jewelry collection at Villa Erba in Cernobbio, while Rhude, under the creative vision of Rhuigi Villaseñor, presented a captivating menswear collection within the lush, verdant gardens of Villa D’Este—a luxurious Renaissance palace transformed into an opulent hotel.
Chanel had aimed to host a cruise show in Italy back in 2020, but the global pandemic necessitated the cancellation of that planned event in Capri. This year, the brand chose the vibrant city of Marseille in southern France as the venue for the cruise show, indicating its intent to engage a younger audience that values diversity and inclusivity in fashion.
However, the online reception to Virginie Viard’s collection presented at Le Corbusier’s architectural marvel, the Cité Radieuse, drew criticism, eventually leading to her departure from the brand in June.
Under the creative stewardship of the late Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel pioneered the concept of traveling shows, taking its cruise collection to extraordinary destinations throughout the years. Locations have included iconic cities such as New York, Venice, Singapore, Dubai, Seoul, Havana, Monaco, and Los Angeles, all chosen for their unique allure and cultural significance.
In a statement, Chanel expressed, “More than just an invitation to travel, the Chanel cruise show is an encounter with the energy and distinctiveness of a destination whose inspirational art de vivre captivates and enchants the world.” This sentiment encapsulates the brand’s vision for its upcoming show, promising an unparalleled experience that showcases both fashion and the stunning grace of Lake Como.
