Well well!!
Christina Aguilera is celebrating the 25th anniversary of her debut album in STYLE. As part of the festivities, she released a mini-concert featuring reimagined versions of her greatest hits, including a standout duet of “What a Girl Wants” with rising pop star Sabrina Carpenter.
The collaboration was part of a special live performance produced in partnership with Spotify, now available to watch on YouTube. In a nostalgic yet fresh take, Aguilera and Carpenter brought new life to the 1999 hit, reminding fans of its timeless appeal. Before their performance, Carpenter shared a heartfelt moment with Aguilera, telling her how one of Aguilera’s songs sparked her passion for music.
“For me, it was always Christina,” Carpenter said, explaining how Aguilera was one of her first idols. “I grew up listening to her songs, and I couldn’t stop singing them when I was younger.”
For Carpenter, who was born just months before Aguilera’s debut album dropped, the duet was a full-circle moment. Singing alongside one of her earliest inspirations was both a personal and professional highlight for the young singer.
The performance was part of a broader celebration of Aguilera’s enduring legacy, as her 1999 self-titled album helped define the sound of early 2000s pop. With hits like “Genie in a Bottle,” “I Turn to You,” and of course, “What a Girl Wants,” Aguilera’s debut album earned her a Grammy for Best New Artist and secured her place in music history.
Carpenter wasn’t the only guest to join in on the celebration. Machine Gun Kelly also made an appearance (another duet we NEVER thought we would like but it was actually pretty epic ) , playing electric guitar for a revamped version of “Genie in a Bottle,” adding a rock edge to the pop classic.
Aguilera, fresh off her Las Vegas residency, continues to keep fans excited about her next chapter. While she hinted at new music in the works, she noted that her upcoming English-language album is still evolving, with songs ready but the overall concept still coming together.
In the meantime, fans can enjoy the reimagined hits, showcasing Aguilera’s range and influence on a new generation of artists like Carpenter. It’s a reminder that even 25 years later, Christina Aguilera is still a force to be reckoned with in the music world.
