From just a block away, the cheering and excitement felt like you were at a tennis match between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. But this wasn’t happening at the Roland-Garros stadium. Instead, it was at a former bank in Paris, transformed for Lacoste’s runway show, where creative director Pelagia Kolotouros presented her second collection for the brand.
Instead of tennis courts, the runway was covered in sand, creating a relaxed beach vibe. A striking wave-like art installation by U.K. artist Susie MacMurray, along with screens showing crashing waves, added to the seaside theme.
Kolotouros drew inspiration from old photos of Lacoste founder René Lacoste and his friends at the beach in the 1920s. The collection featured modern takes on vintage styles, mixing retro swimwear and silky robes with street fashion. Highlights included boxy denim polo shirts, lightweight nylon parkas, and suits made from a new fabric that mimicked tropical wool. Oversized leather jackets and shorts also stood out, designed to look even better as they age.
There were playful details too, like sweaters with a racquet design where the wearer’s head became the tennis ball. The color palette was warm and flattering, featuring sandy beige, deep chocolate, tennis ball yellow, black, and vibrant green.
Kolotouros’s spring collection for Lacoste was a strong follow-up to her debut, with her fall designs hitting stores soon. The buzz around Lacoste’s comeback in fashion is building, and there’s excitement for what’s next.
