Stefano Pilati and Gisele Bündchen star in the latest Zara campaign
“Over the years, many women have expressed admiration for my style,” Stefano Pilati says . He actually attributes that to the care he puts into his clothing. “While some men might see this as vanity, I believe women view it as more intuitive and personal.”
It’s no surprise that his latest Zara collection for men will likely attract female buyers, as the designs reflect his signature aesthetic, particularly the wide trousers with exaggerated breaks that embody his creative spirit. Conversely, men may also be drawn to pieces from the women’s line. Pilati enthusiastically highlights a pair of ultra-low-cut leather trousers designed for women, stating, “Although they weren’t made for men, I wouldn’t hesitate to wear them myself—without delay!” This underscores the fluidity of style across genders.
Among the standout pieces in the collection is a tailored black minidress, prominently featured and inspired by Pilati’s earlier work at Saint Laurent, drawing from a collection by Monsieur Saint Laurent in the 1940s. “This design language is intrinsic to my identity,” he explains. “It has evolved with me over the years, rather than being a relic of my past.” Another notable item is a blazer adorned with strawberries, a playful nod to a previous collection. He recalls with a smile, “In my menswear line, I chose to embroider bananas instead—it’s just quintessentially me.”
As Pilati continues to refine his creative vision, he recently announced a new business partner to help expand his brand, Random Identities, and pursue new projects. “Working with Zara has made me realize that I crave an outlet for more sophisticated creativity than what I currently express through Random Identities,” he shared. Pilati describes Random as streamlined—think a simple coat in a dark fabric—and acknowledges this realization has reignited his desire to create complete collections. The eagerly anticipated collaboration with Zara is set to launch globally, both in stores and online, starting October 3rd.
