Ruffles are making a significant comeback this spring, largely influenced by Chloé’s fresh take on the boho-chic aesthetic. However, when it comes to Zimmermann, the concept of retro romance is a timeless staple in their collections that never goes out of style.
Zimmermann has solidified its position as Australia’s first billion-dollar fashion brand, a remarkable achievement fueled by its vibrant and uplifting designs, especially in the world of swimwear and resort wear. Nicky Zimmermann, the visionary behind the brand, has indicated an exciting potential expansion into the world of beauty, which follows their recent collaboration with the suncare brand, Standard Procedure.
The atmosphere at Zimmermann’s spring runway show in Paris was nothing short of magical, awash in golden light that evoked the serene beauty of sunrise over the ocean. The designer drew inspiration from her childhood experiences watching surf films in a local Sydney town hall, particularly from the iconic ’70s movie “Morning of the Earth,” known for its stunning hazy visuals and evocative imagery.
“The imagery of the film is breathtaking,” Zimmermann remarked during a preview. “It is beautifully backlit, and the flowing moments captured within it resonate with my vision for the clothing, blending colors and light in a dreamy way.”
Her spring collection was an ethereal delight, filled with airy silhouettes and soft, undulating ruffles. Zimmermann artfully incorporated hand-braided macramé details into maxi dresses that flowed gracefully, adorned in a soothing palette of blues and earthy tones that mirrored nature’s beauty.
The collection featured intricately crocheted tunics embellished with sun-inspired embroidery, elegantly paired with culotte-style cargo shorts or whimsical paper organdy balloon pants. A delicate parachute coat and a lightweight windbreaker fluttered gently in the breeze, adding to the collection’s breezy aesthetic.
Among the standout pieces was a wetsuit-inspired high-cut bodysuit topped with a flowing skirt crafted from shimmering organza. “The fabric features an extremely fine filament in its weave,” Zimmermann elaborated. “It reflects the shimmering quality of water beautifully.”
This season, the brand’s signature prints were treated with a delicate touch. A shirtdress with bell sleeves showcased a softened version of a Hawaiian motif, while fluid maxi skirts displayed soft pastel representations of beach landscapes that evoked a sense of serenity.
One of the highlights of the collection was the elegant pleated gowns crafted from slinky jersey, featuring corset belts made from neoprene. These pieces offered a refreshing interpretation of readiness to embrace life’s flowing, ever-changing dynamics.
