Saks Fifth Avenue has officially dipped its toes into the high jewelry market, and now the iconic luxury department store is expanding its horizons once more—this time towards the world of fine art.
On Thursday, the esteemed retailer unveiled its latest venture into the fine art. This limited-edition collection, accessible online and at select locations in New York and Beverly Hills, showcases an impressive array of 100 contemporary prints created by prominent artists. Featured artists include the likes of Sol LeWitt, Eva Lootz, Alex Katz, Donald Sultan, and Rafael Canogar Gomez, among others.
Tracy Margolies, the Chief Merchandising Officer at Saks, shared her enthusiasm about the new collection, stating, “Fashion and art are two highly coveted categories within the luxury space, and we’re thrilled to introduce a fine art curation. Our customers seek Saks’s fresh perspective and luxury edit, and we are excited for them to discover this inspiring assortment. Appealing to both art enthusiasts and collectors alike, Saks is opening a new door for artists to reach a luxury audience.”
The initial rollout of this collection includes a variety of artistic methods, ranging from lithography and engraving to silkscreen printing and photography. Each piece is not only signed but also individually numbered by the artist. Additionally, customers will find exclusive options available solely through Saks, such as *Archipielago III* (2004) by celebrated Cuban artist Kcho and *El mèdol V* (2006) by renowned photographer Xavier Ribas Sorolla. The prices for these works range from a starting point of $600 all the way up to $10,650, with select pieces commanding upwards of $34,000.
From now until October 11, select pieces from this collection will be prominently displayed in the windows of Saks’s flagship location on Fifth Avenue. Additionally, other retail locations across the United States will begin to showcase this curated assortment this fall, including cities such as Boca Raton, Brickell, Chicago, Houston, New Jersey, and San Francisco. Certain stores will boast dedicated art advisors available to assist eager buyers and will feature a pop-up gallery exhibit where visitors can view the artworks in real life. To further enhance the shopping experience, customers can scan a QR code in Saks’s digital catalog to visualize how these stunning pieces will look in their own homes.
With this latest endeavor, Saks marks a significant milestone, although other renowned retailers have previously experienced immense success by intertwining high art with high fashion. Notably, Chairish Art Gallery partnered with Bergdorf Goodman to orchestrate two captivating pop-up exhibits, the most recent of which showcased over 300 original art pieces across five distinct themed galleries at Bergdorf’s Fifth Avenue store from January to April.
