The Mercedes-Benz G-Class, often affectionately known as the G-Wagen, is preparing to celebrate a significant milestone—its 45th anniversary. This iconic vehicle has maintained its status as a symbol of luxury and ruggedness through the years.

To mark this momentous occasion, the renowned German luxury automobile manufacturer is introducing an ultra-exclusive new variant of the G-Class, aptly named the “Past II Future”. This limited edition model is highly coveted, with only 20 units set to be produced. The design of this special edition vehicle is the creative vision of acclaimed fashion designer Nigo, who has infused various elements that pay homage to the G-Class’s illustrious lineage.

The G-Class “Past II Future” is the latest manifestation of Mercedes-Benz’s collaboration with top fashion label Moncler. It made its grand debut during the recent fashion event titled “The City of Genius,” held in Shanghai. This model draws direct inspiration from a unique one-off restoration that Nigo previously designed. However, unlike the two-door convertible version, this special edition comes in a more conventional hardtop four-door configuration, which epitomizes the classic G-Wagen silhouette that enthusiasts have come to love.

This magnificent off-roader flaunts a stylish two-tone paint scheme, blending olive green with a sophisticated grey. The aesthetic is complemented by sleek matte black accents on the window frames, vehicle-wide bumper guards, and lightweight alloy wheels. Adding a distinctive touch, “Past II Future” branding is prominently displayed, while a rear-mounted spare wheel is enveloped in a cover that showcases the collaborative logo of Mercedes-Benz and Moncler.

The luxurious interior of the G-Class “Past II Future” mirrors the quality and design of the standard G-Class, yet it features unique style elements. The seats are adorned with striking checkered inserts that resemble those found on Nigo’s earlier restoration, creating a cohesive design narrative with the latest Mercedes and Moncler capsule collection. Additionally, the center console proudly displays the vehicle’s limited edition “1 of 20” series number, reinforcing its exclusive status.

Under the hood, the G-Class “Past II Future” offers a choice between two formidable powertrains: the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six diesel engine from the G 450d or the robust twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 engine from the G550. The diesel engine generates an impressive 362 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, while the V-8 configuration boasts 416 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. As is customary with G-Wagens, the power is distributed to all four wheels via a smooth nine-speed automatic transmission, ensuring dynamic performance on any terrain.

Given that only 20 units of the G-Class “Past II Future” will be produced, securing one of these exclusive SUVs is expected to be quite a challenge. Although Mercedes-Benz has not disclosed the exact number of units designated for the U.S. market, they have announced that deliveries will commence in spring of next year. Pricing details remain unclear but are anticipated to substantially exceed the G-Wagen’s starting price of around $150,000.
