MM6 Maison Margiela is set to make a splash as the guest designer at the upcoming edition of Pitti Uomo, scheduled to take place from January 14 to 17 at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence, according to information obtained by WWD.
While specific details regarding the date and format of its fall 2025 presentation remain under wraps, the brand has confirmed that it will showcase a collection exclusively for menswear during the four-day event.
In a statement, MM6 Maison Margiela’s design team expressed their gratitude and enthusiasm for this prestigious opportunity. “We are honored and excited to be invited as Pitti Uomo’s guest designer this coming January, as part of the world’s most important menswear fashion fair. We intend to bring the style and spirit of MM6, creating a menswear project specifically for Florence. After nearly 20 years, we are thrilled to return Maison Margiela to the Pitti stage and bring to the fore a contemporary menswear wardrobe that will resonate with the attitude, concepts, and processes of MM6.”
In addition to their participation in Pitti Uomo, MM6 Maison Margiela will continue to play an active role in Milan Women’s Fashion Week, further showcasing their versatile approach to fashion.
Founded in 1997 and creatively directed by a talented design team, MM6 Maison Margiela made a significant debut on the runway in 2012 at New York Fashion Week. Over the years, the brand has adopted a dynamic show schedule, presenting its collections in notable cities including New York, London, and, most recently, Milan, where it officially joined the fashion week calendar in February 2020.
The brand made strides in the menswear arena, formally unveiling its first menswear collection for fall 2022, which has since been presented alongside womenswear at various shows.
MM6 Maison Margiela draws inspiration from Maison Margiela’s extensive archives, often reinterpreting its designs through a youthful and contemporary lens. The brand’s diverse offerings include ready-to-wear apparel, footwear, accessories, and leather goods. A distinctive feature of their garment design is the horizontal line of tiny white stitches on the back of each piece, which has become a hallmark of the brand’s aesthetic. Notably, Maison Margiela has been part of Renzo Rosso’s OTB Group since 2002, solidifying its place in the global fashion landscape.
Commenting on the brand’s unique approach, Francesca Tacconi, special events coordinator at Pitti Immagine, remarked, “The deliberate sense of provocation is almost familiar, as it is part of the essence of each MM6 piece. MM6 explores different postures and behaviors in the here and now, becoming symbols of inner nonconformity and independent expressions of a wardrobe that celebrates the beauty and surprises of imperfection. To us, it seems like a return to origins rendered contemporary by the dialogue between deconstructed sartorial wear and characteristic individuality.”
The announcement of MM6 Maison Margiela’s participation comes shortly after Pitti Uomo revealed another guest designer for the January trade show—Setchu, a brand founded and led by the talented Satoshi Kuwata.
As the upcoming guest designer, MM6 Maison Margiela joins the ranks of esteemed names such as Marine Serre, S.S. Daley, ERL’s Eli Russell Linnetz, Martine Rose, Grace Wales Bonner, and Thebe Magugu. Previous guest designers and brands showcased in Florence include renowned labels like Magliano, Jil Sander, Y/Project, JW Anderson, Roberto Cavalli, and Craig Green, among others.
As excitement builds around the 107th edition of the menswear trade fair, further details, including the complete schedule of events, are expected to be released in November, promising an enticing glimpse into the future of menswear fashion.
